Guidelines for Nanjing University International Fellowship Application
1.Objectives
Nanjing University International Fellowship Initiative (NIFI) aims to promote international academic exchange and research cooperation between Nanjing University and the rest of the world by supporting overseas outstanding scholars to visit NJU on a short-term basis and conduct joint academic activities.
2. Eligible Applicants
(1) "Distinguished Scholars"
· Winners of the Nobel Prize, Turing Prize, Fields Medal, or other top international scientific and technological awards;
· Academicians in developed countries;
· Outstanding scholars with equivalent academic honors and achievements;
· To conduct joint academic activities at NJU for more than one week.
(2) "Senior Scholars"
· Outstanding scholars including associate professors and above in overseas universities or research institutions with internationally recognized important achievements;
· To conduct joint academic activities at NJU for more than two weeks.
(3) "Young Scholars"
· Young scholars with or without assistant professorship in overseas universities or research institutions, with active innovative thinking and outstanding research potential;
· To conduct joint academic activities at NJU for more than one month.
Notes:
* Academic professionals working in other overseas institutions such as international organizations, large enterprises, high-caliber think tanks or media organizations can apply for the corresponding categories appropriate to their circumstances.
* Applicants shall not have any health issues that might hinder their research activities.
3. Funding Criteria
(1) For Distinguished Scholars: an honorarium of1,600 yuan RMB/day(pretax) and a round-trip air ticket (business class) of up to 35,000 yuan RMB; free accommodation on campus or a subsidy based on an estimated cost of on-campus accommodation.
(2)For Senior Scholars: a stipend of1,000 yuan RMB/day(pretax) for professors or equivalent, 700 yuan RMB/day for associate professors or equivalent, and a round-trip air ticket (economy class); free accommodation on campus or a subsidy based on an estimated cost of on-campus accommodation. (3) For Young Scholars: a stipend of500 yuan RMB/day(pretax) for an assistant professor, 300 yuan RMB/day for a scholar without an academic title, and a round-trip air ticket (economy class); free accommodation on campus or a subsidy based on an estimated cost of on-campus accommodation. [no longer than a year]
4. Team Application
Application can be made in teams. The NIFI host shall first identify a "NIFI Group Leader" who should have internationally recognized academic achievements and extensive international influence. The team members shall be nominated by the NIFI Group Leader and shall not exceed 3 members at most. The NIFI host should jointly apply for or implement international research cooperation projects with foreign parties and coordinate the whole visiting plan. The total duration of the visit of all foreign team members during the implementation period should not be less than 2 months. The funding is a fixed amount, and the funding criteria correspond to the above program categories.
5. Honorary title
"NIFI Ambassador": The scholar to be invited can play an important role in promoting substantive international cooperation between NJU and its host institution, including promoting the establishment of international joint laboratories and other scientific research platforms, or setting up international high-level talent training programs, etc. The duration of the visit shall not be less than one week, and at least 3 colleges or more shall be visited. The details of support correspond to the above program categories. NJU will award certificates to scholars who receive this honorary title.
